Two police community support officers (PCSOs) swiftly located a missing man with dementia.
Swindon’s favourite officers, armed with vital local knowledge, were deployed in the hunt for the vulnerable male who had been reported missing after going AWOL for three hours.
PCSOs Lee Hare and Kate Jackson tracked down the man, who lives with dementia, following a search of the Greenmeadow and Moredon area of town.
He’d been out for fish and chips but failed to return home – sparking concerns for his welfare.
He was located in Moredon safe and well but he misplaced his mobility scooter. PC Vanes returned the man home whilst PCSO Hare and Jackson continued to search the area on their bicycles.
They eventually found the scooter in Farmfoods and reunited the man with it.
His family were informed about the Herbert Protocol, it’s a form that carers, family or friends of a vulnerable person, or the person themselves, can fill in to help police if they go missing. It includes emergency contact numbers, details about medication and a recent photograph. Find out more on the Wiltshire Police website.
