Emergency services have rescued a man from a flooded river in Melksham.
999 crews responded to the incident in Murray Walk, off Scotland Road, shortly before 8pm on yesterday evening (Monday, 25 November).
A member of the public spotted the man stranded in water and called for help – while keeping him talking as first responders raced to the scene.
It’s believed the man became stuck after walking the path alongside the River Avon some time earlier, as water levels increased due to Storm Bert.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Melksham and Westbury to the scene.
They also deployed specialist water rescue units from Trowbridge and Stratton (Swindon).
Firefighters were able to bring the man to safety and provided first aid before leaving him in the company of family members.
The incident was resolved within an hour, and emergency crews had left the scene by 9.30pm.
It came after Melksham town centre flooded, with numerous properties damaged by water.
