A biker has been airlifted to hospital in critical condition after a head-on crash with a fuel tanker in Marlborough this morning (Wednesday).

Emergency services, including Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Granham Hill at around 7.30am.

The incident involved a Ford Fuels-branded DAF tanker and a motorcycle, which impacted head-on 300 metres south of the roundabout with George Lane.

The biker, a man aged in his 20s, was treated by local ambulance crews and air ambulance medics at the scene for more than two hours.

At around 10am the casualty was conveyed to Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance – which landed on the Marlborough College field.

He was subsequently airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol for further urgent care.

Wiltshire Police told Wiltshire 999s that the biker sustained serious injuries, which are currently being described as life-threatening.

The driver of the tanker remained at the scene and is assisting officers. They are not believed to have suffered any serious injuries in the crash.

A forensic collision investigation is underway – with the road likely to remain closed for most of the day while enquiries are carried out.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage relating to the incident is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Wiltshire Police.

The team can be contacted by phone on 01225 694597 or by email at [email protected]. Please quote log 47 of today (15 July).

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that two crews from Marlborough and Pewsey were sent to the scene.

“Firefighters dealt with fuel spillage and assisted with scene safety”, a spokesperson said.

Adding: “Our stop was in at 9.47am and the incident left with police – the road was closed in both directions.”
