A woman who was pulled from the Kennet and Avon Canal has died in hospital.
Emergency services were called to Caen Hill Locks in Devizes at around 10.30am yesterday (Tuesday, 21 May) following reports of a person in the water.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance, a doctor, a Hazardous Area Response Team and two double-crewed ambulances attended the scene alongside police and the fire service.
The woman, aged in her 40s, was rescued from the water and giving treatment on the towpath – before being airlifted to the Bristol Royal Infirmary in a life-threatening condition.
Despite the best efforts of medics, she was pronounced dead in hospital.
It’s believed the woman suffered a medical episode while riding her bicycle, and subsequently fell into the canal. However, this has not been confirmed by authorities.
