Police have launched an probe after a woman was pulled from a canal in Wiltshire.
Emergency services responded to reports of a person in the water at Caen Hill Locks in Devizes at around 10.30am this morning (Tuesday).
Wiltshire Air Ambulance, a doctor, a Hazardous Area Response Team, two ambulance crews and a paramedic officer attended the scene alongside the police and fire crews.
A woman, aged in her 40s, was found to be unresponsive after being rescued from the water.
Medics provided urgent care on the Kennet and Avon Canal towpath, where she was stabilised after around one hour of intensive treatment.
A short time later, she was put into the air ambulance helicopter and flown to the Bristol Royal Infirmary for further urgent care.
Wiltshire Police said that the woman’s condition is life-threatening.
Emergency vehicles lined Foxhangers Bridge, in Marsh Lane, as 999 crews battled to save her life.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said that crews from Devizes and Chippenham along with a technical rescue team from Trowbridge were deployed.
The force has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
