Firefighters have tackled huge flames threatening several new homes in Calne.
Emergency services were called to Low Lane, off Anchor Road, following reports of a blaze involving a hedgerow at around 11.05am today (Tuesday).
Four fire crews from Chippenham and Devizes raced to the scene, battling the inferno – which was just a few metres from new build properties on a construction site.
In a statement a spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to Low Lane, Calne, at 11.05am today (August 11) where approximately 100 metres of hedgerow was well alight adjacent to the field and construction site.
“Crews attended from Chippenham (x2) and Devizes (x2), along with the Royal Wootton Bassett water carrier.
“The stop came in at 12.54pm, with hose reel jets, beaters and water knapsacks used to extinguish the fire.”
