Firefighters have tackled an Apache helicopter blaze at the Army Aviation Centre as part of a dramatic training exercise.
A retained crew from Amesbury Fire Station were invited to the airbase in Middle Wallop, Hampshire, on Wednesday evening (18 March).
They were able to enhance their understanding of aviation emergencies – being shown around an Apache helicopter to better understand its size and complexity.
Firefighters then took part in a live exercise using a specialist training simulator designed to replicate a major blaze involving the attack aircraft.
The visit was hosted by Capita Fire and Rescue alongside White Watch, who provided guidance and answered questions throughout the evening.
A spokesperson for Amesbury Fire Station them for facilitating the training opportunity and supporting the crew’s ongoing development.
Military helicopters, including Apaches, are a frequent sight across Wiltshire due to ongoing training exercises.
Large areas of Salisbury Plain are used by the armed forces, with aircraft regularly operating at low level as part of routine training.
The activity means local emergency services must remain prepared to respond to potential incidents involving military aircraft, making exercises such as this an important part of their operational readiness.
