Two men have been arrested after a serious assault outside McDonald’s in Swindon town centre in the early hours of this morning (Sunday).
Emergency services responded to reports of violent disorder in Canal Walk, in the Wharf Green area, at around 5.20am.
A 24-year-old man suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been arrested on suspicion of affray.
A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and robbery.
Both men remain in police custody for questioning.
Speculation suggested that one of the men was stabbed, although Wiltshire Police said nobody sustained stab wounds.
Two crime scenes were established following the disorder, with cordons in place in Bridge Street and Wharf Green, outside McDonald’s.
Forensic investigators were working at the scene from around 9.30am, photographing the area and recovering evidence.
A blood-covered T-shirt, a red lighter and a silver chain necklace were among a number of items visible within the cordoned area.
Inspector Westerby of Wiltshire Police confirmed the arrests and said the cordon that was in place at the scene has now been lifted.
