A dog walker has been filmed climbing down from the top of Silbury Hill despite visitors being prohibited from accessing the ancient monument.
Drone footage sent to Wiltshire 999s shows a person with a dog making their way down the side of the landmark, which is near Avebury.
The person who captured the footage claims they have seen other people climbing Silbury Hill in recent days, although those incidents were not recorded.
English Heritage has now issued a reminder to visitors, stressing that the location is a Scheduled Ancient Monument within the Avebury World Heritage Site.
It is also a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, with signs around the hill informing visitors that climbing it is prohibited – and can lead to arrest.
An English Heritage spokesperson said access is restricted “to protect its sensitive archaeology and grassland”.
They also warned that “it is a criminal offence to cause wilful damage to the monument”.
Visitors are being asked to remain within the public viewing area and use the public footpaths around the landmark instead.
The spokesperson said these routes “provide fantastic views of Silbury Hill while helping to protect it for everyone to enjoy”.
Adding: “Please help us care for this special and mysterious place”.
