Two teenagers have reportedly sustained knife wounds during a disorder in Calne town centre.

Police rushed to reports of a disturbance between two groups of youths in The Pippin area shortly after 3pm this afternoon (Monday 7 November).

It’s understood a number of males from the Devizes area came into Calne and a fight ensued. The majority of those involved were under the age of 18.

Half a dozen police officers swarmed the area in a bid to stop the disorder shortly after 3pm

Locals say the group were seen engaging in violent disorder and armed with blades during the incident – which saw at least two males sustain injuries.

Two males are believed to have sustained knife wounds – one was stabbed in the hand and the other was stabbed in the leg. Neither injury is believed to be significant.

Armed police officers were visible in the town centre – but didn’t appear to be filly kitted up

Wiltshire Police confirmed that one person suffered an injury to their hand, but no further information has been released publicly at this stage of the investigation.

The incident continued – with abusive language and threats between the two groups who were divided by five police officers – until 5.30pm, when a group of males from Devizes boarded a bus and left the area.

Around 30 youths gathered in Curzon Street and Church Street following the serious assaults

One of the males, who suffered a minor stab wound, was collected by his mother and taken home.

At least one male was arrested in connection with the incident.

In an earlier statement, as officers were still responding to the altercation, a force spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a report of a disorder involving a group of youths in The Pippin, Calne, shortly after 3pm today.

“It is believed one male has sustained a minor injury.

“Enquiries are currently ongoing. Anyone with information should call 101 and quote log number 206 of today.”
