The police helicopter is currently assisting in a search for suspects in Swindon after they ditched a car.

A white Mercedes C220 estate was witnessed being pursued by police down Great Western Way, across Bruce Street Bridges and onto Cheney Manor Road where it turned into a dead-end at 6pm.

The driver collided with a wall at the bottom of the street, causing minimal damage to the vehicle, before fleeing up some nearby steps and towards Beech Avenue in Pinehurst.

Special Inspector Sanders at the scene

Despite the huge police presence and the support of the National Police Air Service, it’s not believed anyone has yet been arrested in connection with the incident.

The car due to be recovered to a police station where it will be combed for evidence by forensics.

Special Inspector Sanders was called to the scene to deploy the drone overhead, but following a search by the police helicopter he was stood down. A dog unit also attended but was not required.
