A Swindon man has been banned from keeping animals for five years after CCTV caught him repeatedly beating his puppy.

Kyle Menham appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (29 October) to be sentenced after the RSPCA brought a prosecution.

The 27-year-old, of Thornbridge Avenue in Park South, previously pleaded guilty to causing a Cane Corso-type puppy called Zee unnecessary suffering.

The defendant, who has previously been jailed for supplying crack cocaine and heroin to a police officer in an undercover sting, hurt the animal on Friday 13 February 2026.

A family member had captured what was described as a “sustained attack” on CCTV, and reported the incident to the RSPCA.

The court was told how Menham caused Zee “pain and distress” through physical and emotional abuse – which he knew or ought reasonably to have known would cause harm.

He was handed a two-year community order, requiring him to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.

Menham was disqualified from keeping any animal for five years, and cannot apply to have the ban lifted for at least two years.

He was also ordered to pay £2,383.70 in costs and a £114 victim surcharge.

The defendant, who is in receipt of benefits, will pay £20 per month towards the financial penalties, beginning on 1 December.

At the rate agreed, it will take more than ten years to clear the £2,497.70 debt.
