People across Wiltshire could face up to five years in prison under new laws banning certain types of pornography.
The legislation comes into force on 6 November, making it illegal to possess or publish sexually explicit material depicting strangulation, suffocation, incest or adults pretending to be children.
Under the Crime and Policing Act 2026, possessing pornography depicting strangulation, suffocation or incest could result in up to two years in prison.
Possessing pornography depicting sexual activity involving someone who is, or is pretending to be, under 16 could carry a maximum sentence of three years.
Those convicted of publishing or distributing prohibited material could face up to five years behind bars.
The offences also cover realistic AI-generated images, even where no real people are involved.
The government has confirmed that the laws will apply to material already in people’s possession, meaning prohibited content must be deleted before the legislation takes effect.
The changes follow an independent review which raised concerns about the influence of violent and harmful pornography on sexual behaviour.
Online platforms will also be required to take proactive steps to prevent users from encountering the prohibited material, with Ofcom able to impose significant fines for failures.
