A paraglider has been airlifted to hospital after crashing in the Wiltshire countryside.
Emergency services were scrambled to the serious incident near Alton Barnes, east of Devizes, shortly before 2pm this afternoon (Wednesday).
It’s unclear the exact circumstances, but a paraglider is believed to have crashed in the vicinity of Milk Hill, a paragliding site.
South Western Ambulance Service confirmed that it deployed a significant number of ambulance resources – including a Hazardous Area Response Team from Bristol, Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) and a BASICS doctor.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) also mobilised crews from Pewsey and Trowbridge, along with a technical rescue team from Stratton.
The GWAAC helicopter touched down close to the casualty, who was treated at the scene before being airlifted to Great Western Hospital in Swindon for further care.
The condition of the injured person is unknown at this stage.
A spokesperson for DWFRS said: “Firefighters from Pewsey, Trowbridge and our technical rescue team from Stratton fire station attended Milk Hill in Wiltshire at 2.41pm today to reports of a paraglider requiring rescue.
“Firefighters worked with colleagues from Wiltshire Police and South West Ambulance Service to rescue the casualty using technical rescue equipment. The stop message was received at 3.42pm.”
