An officer has been ‘seriously injured’ after responding to an emergency call in Swindon.

Police were called to a disorder breaking out on a bus in County Road, near Transfer Bridges, at around 10.40am this morning (Friday).

Two officers in attendance were assaulted whilst carrying out their duties at the incident – with one of them left covered in blood on the ground, a witness claimed.

It’s understood an officer pressed their urgent assistance (panic) button, which resulted in approximately ten units blue lighting it to the scene.

A witness, who was passing in a vehicle, told Wiltshire 999s that “the copper was in a seriously bad way”, adding that they were “on the ground and blood was pouring”.

A man, aged in his 50s, has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on a police officer, assaulting an emergency worker and breaching Section 4 of the Public Order Act.

The suspect is being held in custody at Gablecross Police Station for questioning.

Wiltshire Police has not confirmed what injuries the officer sustained and if they required hospital treatment.
