A man has been treated by air ambulance medics amid an incident in Calne town centre.
Emergency services descended on Wood Street following reports of an unresponsive casualty at around 1.30pm this afternoon (Tuesday).
Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance landed in a field nearby, before the charity’s critical care medics rushed to help local ambulance crews on scene.
A man was reportedly given CPR and stabilised before being taken into a land ambulance and conveyed to the Royal United Hospital in Bath.
Officers cordoned off the road, and firefighters held sheets around the man while he received treatment.
It’s understood that pupils are Kingsbury Green Academy were not allowed to leave the site until teachers were able to confirm that there was no risk.
The incident sparked speculation online – with some suggesting it was a stabbing. Wiltshire Police have confirmed it was a non-suspicious medical emergency.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Wiltshire police have supported colleagues from South West Ambulance Service attending a medical incident in Wood Street, Calne, at about 1.30pm today (05/05).
“The High Street was closed to allow emergency services to attend.
“An adult male was given urgent medical treatment at the scene and has been taken to hospital for further care.
“There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances and there is no threat to the public.”
