A major clean-up operation is underway after travellers left a car park full of poo.
The group recently set up an unauthorised encampment at Cotswold Lakes on the Wiltshire-Gloucestershire border.
Numerous caravans and associated vehicles called the Bridge Car Park, off Spine Road East, home earlier this month.
They’ve since left the site – but the Cotswold Lakes Trust says “significant amounts of litter and human waste” were deposited.
Now, a major clean-up operation is underway. The car park remains closed while work is carried out to make it safe for visitors.
It’s believed the travellers came into the area following the shooting of Jimmy Ward on Calcutt Park, a static traveller site in Cricklade.
A spokesperson for the Trust said: “The unauthorised Traveller encampment at Bridge Car Park has now departed.
“However, with significant amounts of litter and human waste present on site, it will remain temporarily closed until we have fully assessed and implemented the necessary clean up.
“Thank you for patience while we bring the site back to a good and safe condition.”
