A man reportedly stabbed himself in a Bath supermarket this afternoon (Thursday).

Police were called to a “concern for welfare” incident at Morrisons in London Road earlier.

Shop workers frantically provided first aid to the man as emergency services rushed to the scene and customers fled in horror – as staff swiftly evacuated the store.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance was among the 999 crews tasked – later flying to the Royal United Hospital, where the casualty was taken for further treatment.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “Emergency services are at the scene of a concern for welfare incident at Morrison’s on London Road, Bath today, Thursday 20 July.

“Officers were called to the store by staff reporting a man had injured himself. The store was closed and shop staff attempted to give first aid.

“The injured man has gone to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

“The store remains closed while officers make further enquiries.”
