Five businesses in Wiltshire have been hit with fines for employing illegal workers.
A total of £283,000 in financial penalties were given to the company’s – which include a popular restaurant in Swindon and a car wash in Salisbury.
The Home Office’s Immigration Enforcement officers regularly visit business premises to ensure employers are only hiring staff with the legal right to work in the UK.
Despite this, some flout the rules – recruiting people who are either in the country illegally or not complying with the conditions of their visit.
Chip shop The Magic Chippy in Drove Road, trading as Chippy Magic Ltd, was fined £45,000.
Indian restaurant The Jewel in the Crown in Victoria Road, 323 Enterprise Limited, was fined £28,000.
Brazilian restaurant Recanto in Commercial Road, trading as DSF777 Ltd, was fined £40,000.
Van dealership Big Van World on Chelworth Park near Cricklade, trading as Apollo Solutions Wiltshire Ltd, was fined £80,000.
Superhand Car Wash in Salisbury Road, Salisbury, trading as Superhand Carclean Ltd, was fined £90,000.
The Immigration Enforcement visits took place between 1 April and 30 June 2025.
The report lists fines given to: employers who have not paid or are not making regular payments towards a penalty 28 days after they have exhausted all their objection and/or appeal rights, or employers who have been served with a second or further penalty once they have exhausted all their objection and/or appeal rights regardless of whether any payment has been made.
Companies that don’t pay the penalties face further court action, which could lead to recovery of goods and director disqualification.
