Police have issued a warning over illegal electric scooter use after a young girl was reportedly seen riding close to pedestrians in Calne.

Officers were made aware of an incident involving the girl riding an e-scooter along The Pippin and passing closely to people walking in the area.

CCTV footage is now being reviewed and police said appropriate action will be considered following enquiries.

Police have reminded residents that privately owned e-scooters are subject to legal restrictions and can pose a significant risk to pedestrians and other road users when ridden irresponsibly.

Parents and guardians are being encouraged to consider the law and refrain from buying e-scooters for their children.

Police warned that privately owned e-scooters being used illegally on public roads or in other public areas may be seized and could ultimately be destroyed.

The update comes as Calne Neighbourhood Policing Team continues work to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour across the town.

PC Wright recently attended an Antisocial Behaviour Risk Assessment Conference with partner agencies over an ongoing issue affecting a number of Calne residents.

Police said working alongside other organisations was an important part of finding effective, long-term solutions to problems affecting communities.

Officers also held a meeting with the Calne CCTV Manager last week, during which a number of incidents were brought to their attention.

Footage has since been requested to support ongoing enquiries and help identify those responsible where possible.

Meanwhile, proactive police patrols are continuing around Castlefields Park and Yellow Park, near Abberd Brook, following recent reports of antisocial behaviour.

Officers are working with partners and reviewing available CCTV in an effort to identify those responsible.

Police are also considering whether additional CCTV could be used in the areas.
