Residents asked to help shape future of Swindon’s country parks

Residents are invited to have their say on the future of Swindon’s country parks through a new consultation launched by the council.

Swindon Borough Council is developing a new Country Parks Strategy, which will set out plans for improvements to green spaces across the town over the coming years.

Specialist consultants, led by The Environment Partnership, have been appointed to support the Council and advise on how Swindon’s parks can be enhanced.

Residents can take part in the consultation by completing surveys available on the Council’s website, or by scanning QR codes displayed on posters at Coate Water, Stanton, Lydiard, Barbury Castle and Mouldon Hill.

The Council wants to know how often people visit the parks, how they travel there, how long they stay and what improvements they would like to see.

It will also be consulting with Friends groups, volunteers and other stakeholders.

Councillor Marina Strinkovsky, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Placemaking and Planning, said: “Swindon has some amazing green spaces, much loved by residents.

“They are important for people’s wellbeing and health, as well as being a joy in themselves, and we want to make sure we have a solid plan for how we keep and improve them for future generations.

“If you’ve visited the parks recently, please do fill in the surveys and tell us about your experiences and what you would like to see more of, so we know that changes we make, if any, are what residents really want and need from their country parks.

“We don’t have enough data on how many people visit our country parks, what they like about them and what they would like to see improved, so these surveys will help us form a wider, clearer picture.”

The surveys will remain open until Thursday, 31 October, and can be completed here.

Feedback will be used to shape the new Country Parks Strategy, which is expected to be published early next year.
