Wiltshire Police have confirmed that they issued wrong information about a bin lorry killing a man in a crash in Salisbury city centre.
Emergency services attended a road traffic collision in Fisherton Street at around 10.45am on Tuesday (28 October). A 64-year-old man died at the scene.
A forensic collision investigation was launched, with the focus of officers clearly on two lorries – a Hills Waste Solutions refuse lorry and a HGV carrying a machine.

This morning (Wednesday), a force spokesperson said that the fatal incident involved a pedestrian and a “refuse lorry”.
However, this information – issued directly to Wiltshire 999s by the police press office – was incorrect. The vehicle involved was actually the HGV, and not the refuse lorry.
A spokesperson for Hills Group said that the crash was ‘as a result of a separate vehicle passing their refuse lorry and hitting the pedestrian’.

The firm were forced to contact Wiltshire Police to have the error corrected.
The updated statement from the force reads: “The incident involved a 64-year-old male pedestrian (who sadly died) and an HGV.”
“The circumstances are under investigation by the Serious Collision Investigation Team.”
