Police have seized an illegal e-bike and e-scooter in Melksham as part of a crackdown.
Officers from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team, supported by Wiltshire Police’s drone unit and Roads Policing Unit, carried out the enforcement activity today (Tuesday).
As part of Operation Jetsom, a countywide initiative to remove dangerous, uninsured and illegally modified vehicles from the roads, two were seized – and will be destroyed.
One electric scooter and one Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle (EPAC) were taken off the streets. The EPAC had been modified to exceed legal speed limits, making it unlawful for use on public roads.
Sergeant Gemma Rutter said: “We have gone through the phase of educating riders, we are now enforcing.
“These items will now be seized and crushed as we continue our efforts to stop and seize e-scooters and illegal EPACS.
“You can not ride an e-scooter in a public place.
“If your EPAC goes faster than 15.5mph; does not have pedals and/or exceeds 250watts output it is unlawful and will be seized if stopped.”
Police are urging members of the public to check the legality of their electric vehicles to avoid enforcement action.
