Former Chippenham Town FC footballer Quevin Castro has died aged 25 after reportedly collapsing during a match in Portugal.
The midfielder, who made ten appearances for the Bluebirds, died after falling ill during a pre-season friendly on Saturday 22 August.
BBC News reports that Castro collapsed during the first half of Real Sport Clube’s friendly against Portuguese top-flight side Estrela de Amadora in Lisbon.
It’s understood he was given CPR and defibrillation on the pitch, but was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later.
Chippenham Town FC announced the news on Sunday morning, saying everyone at the club was devastated by his sudden death.
In a statement, the club said: “All at CTFC are devastated to learn of the sudden passing of Quevin Castro.
“Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all that knew him.
“Quevin signed for us in the summer of 2025, and played ten times.
“Rest in peace, Quev.”
Castro had previously been on the books at West Bromwich Albion, making his first-team debut against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup in 2021.
He also spent time with several other English clubs before returning to Portugal.
West Brom said it was “devastated” by the news and confirmed a tribute would be held during its Championship match against Burnley on Sunday.
