A paraglider has been airlifted to hospital after crashing into a garden near Bath.
Emergency services were called to the serious incident in Lansdown at around 9.30pm last night (Tuesday 25 June).
A significant number of 999 resources were sent to the scene, including Hazardous Area Response Team ambulance crews and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
On social media, one person asked if others had seen a paraglider ‘fall out of the sky’.
In response, a local resident claimed the paraglider crash landed in their garden and called an ambulance for him. He said he was “in a very bad way”.
The casualty, a man, was treated by medics before being airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
An area of Lansdown Playing Fields appeared to be cordoned off during the incident.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “Emergency services responded to reports of a paraglider coming down into a field near Lansdown Park and Ride, Bath, at about 9.20pm on Tuesday 25 June.
“The pilot suffered significant injuries and went to hospital by air ambulance.
“The incident has been reported to the British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association, for investigation.”
A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said:“We were called at 21:38hrs on Tuesday 25 June to an incident in Bath.
“We sent an air ambulance, hazardous area response team, rapid response team, and a double-crewed land ambulance to the scene of the incident and conveyed one patient by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital.”
Avon Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they sent crews from Bath.
A spokesperson added: “Crews rescued one person who was treated by ambulance at the scene and transported to hospital.”
