UPDATE: Man suffers knife wounds in incident near Swindon woodland

Mystery surrounds an incident that saw police swarm a Swindon street.

Officers raced to Wigmore Avenue, near Lawn Woods, at around 9pm on Monday (21 October).

Locals reported seeing numerous police vehicles in the area, with a crime scene in place.

One officer reportedly took a statement from a person within a house, while detectives from Swindon CID swabbed the pavement and bagged evidence outside.

Wiltshire Police was approached for comment at 9.55am today (Tuesday), but is yet to respond.

A local resident, who contacted Wiltshire 999s about the incident when it was ongoing, said they were “concerned” it was a robbery or burglary.

“We saw all the police rushing around and it looked like there was a crime scene at a house and in the bottom of Lawns but I’m not sure”, they commented.

Adding: “I didn’t see what happened so I didn’t get involved but they were there for about an hour. It’s very worrying, the neighbours I know in the street don’t know what happened either.”

Another person claims there were officers circulating in the area – including nearby Sandringham Road, potentially searching for outstanding suspects.
