A man has been arrested following a serious assault in Swindon town centre.
Police, along with the ambulance service, were called to the incident at the bus station – on Manchester Road – at around 8pm yesterday evening.
A temporary cordon was put in place in Alfred Street, around 200 metres from the initial scene, for approximately 20 minutes whilst a police dog worked in the area.
A local man, in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent. The suspect was taken to Gablecross Police Station, where he remains.
The male victim, who sustained an injury to his leg inflicted with an unknown weapon, did not attend hospital for treatment. His injury is believed to be minor.
Wiltshire Police has confirmed that “the individuals are thought to be known to each other” and that there was “no threat to the wider public”.
The force was unable to confirm what weapon was used in the assault but did not rule out that it could have been a knife or bladed article.
Patrols were carried out in the area following the attack, but the police presence dwindled to nothing by 9.30pm.
