A man has been airlifted to hospital after ‘jumping’ from a window amid a drug raid on a flat in Swindon by Wiltshire Police.
Officers attended an upper-floor apartment in Galsworthy Close, Liden, on Thursday afternoon (9 July) following reports of possible illegal drug use.
On their arrival, a man is believed to have attempted to flee the property via a window. As a result, he fell to the ground and sustained serious injuries.
Officers provided immediate first aid to the casualty, according to Inspector Joe Senior – who is responsible for policing in Swindon North, East and Rural.
Great Western Air Ambulance responded in a helicopter, while Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance were deployed in a rapid response vehicle.
Critical care medics provided treatment to the man, aged in his 20s, alongside police and the ambulance crews – before airlifting him to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
Inspector Senior confirmed that as a result of the raid, six people were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs. They remain in custody.
Due to serious injuries being sustained following police contact, Wiltshire Police has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct.
