A knifeman has been arrested after a family in a campervan were attacked at an M4 services.
Police were called to Moto Chieveley, at Junction 13 near Newbury, at around 3.15 yesterday (23 December) following reports of a disorder in the car park.
The suspect approached the family – a man, woman and child – in their Ford Transit campervan, which was parked in a coach bay whilst armed with a knife.
The man, aged in his 30s, exited his vehicle and challenged the suspect, leading him away.
The suspect then got into his Range Rover and drive at the man multiple times – narrowly avoiding running him down – before driving away.
However, he came back in his car and rammed the campervan numerous times whilst the family were inside. Three cars were also damaged.
Officers arrived on scene swiftly, arresting a a 42-year-old man on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm, affray, dangerous driving, and threatening behaviour.
The suspect, from Slough, remains in custody for questioning and part of the services car park is cordoned off as investigations continue.
Detective Sergeant Marcus Burrows said: “I understand this assault and affray may have been alarming for those who witnessed it and those hearing about it.
“However, thankfully, no one was injured and there is no ongoing risk to the public.
“We are investigating it thoroughly; we remain at the services as our enquiries continue, with a scene in place in the overflow car park.
“Anyone with concerns should speak to a uniformed officer.
“I am appealing for witnesses to any part of this incident to please come forward.
“The services was busy at the time so I imagine there are lots of people who witnessed it but have not spoken to us yet.”
