Drivers are being urged to plan ahead as sections of the A36 near Warminster are set to close for resurfacing work over several weekends.
National Highways will shut the route between Upton Lovell and the Heytesbury roundabout from 8pm this Friday until 6am on Monday, 17 November.
The closure marks the first of three full weekend shutdowns to allow crews to complete essential resurfacing. Further closures are planned for the weekends of 21-24 November and 28 November-1 December.
Diversion routes will be clearly signposted via the A303 and A350.
National Highways Project Manager Tracey Matthews said: “We fully appreciate that road closures can be frustrating, but we’re unable to carry out the work while the road is open to traffic.
“Most of the work is taking place under overnight closures when traffic levels are at their lowest, and by working over the weekends, this will enable us to finish the programme sooner.
“In the meantime, we thank people for their co-operation and patience while we carry out this essential work, and advise people to plan ahead and allow a little extra time for their journeys.”
The three-mile stretch of the A36 has already seen overnight resurfacing this month as part of long-term maintenance aimed at improving safety and journey reliability.
The work is scheduled to be completed by 12 December.
Further resurfacing will take place in the new year on weeknights only at the A36/A303 Deptford interchange.
