The British Transport Police say they were working to identify a man who died on the mainline railway tracks in near Swindon yesterday evening.
As first reported by Wiltshire 999s, emergency services raced to the scene between Shrivenham and Longcot at around 8.45pm following a report of a person being hit by a GWR train.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police (BTP) said: “BTP officers were called to Swindon area after a report that a person had been struck by a train.
“Officers from the BTP attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 20:49 and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“The ambulance service also attended but the person was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“Officers are currently working to establish the identity of the person, and inform their next of kin. A file will be prepared for the Coroner.”
