A 23-year-old man’s being held in police custody on suspicion of murder following a fatal hit-and-run on the A303 in Amesbury on Friday afternoon.

At approximately 4.50pm, a car was in collision with a man on the A303 eastbound near Solstice Park, but the vehicle involved failed to stop.

Sadly, the injured man, 63, who was taken to hospital by air ambulance, died this morning.

A 23-year-old man from Watford was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station in Swindon.

Det Supt Julie Mackay who is leading the investigation said: “We would like to speak anyone who may have seen this collision on Friday.

“This is a very busy road and I believe there would have been a number of drivers and road users who would have seen this incident.

“Also, if you have any dash-cam footage of this please come forward.”

Anyone with further information should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54190059972. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
