Four people have each been fined £1,000 after illegally dumping waste near Stonehenge.
Wiltshire Council’s Environmental Enforcement Team investigated two separate fly-tipping incidents, which were captured by covert cameras.
The investigations identified four people responsible for the illegal disposal of the waste, with two people involved in each incident.
Two Salisbury residents and two Amesbury residents were each issued with a £1,000 fixed penalty notice (FPN).
As FPNs are not criminal convictions, the four people cannot be named.
David Bullock, Director of Assets, Highways and Waste, said: “Fly-tipping is a criminal offence that harms local communities and damages the environment.
“We are committed to tackling fly-tipping and we have a network of CCTV cameras placed in hotspots around the county to catch offenders. And when we have the evidence, such as in this case, we will take action and issue FPNs or prosecute offenders if necessary.”
He added: “Since these incidents, we have increased the maximum FPN for fly-tipping from £1,000 to £5,000 resulting from new government guidance, helping to ensure offenders face tougher penalties and are held accountable for their actions.”
The council said the maximum FPN for fly-tipping has since increased from £1,000 to £5,000 following new government guidance.
