Firefighters are tackling a verge blaze – with the busy A303 closed in both directions.
Emergency services were called to the major route at Chadenwick Hill, near West Knoyle, at around 1.30pm this afternoon (Monday).
Approximately 100 metres of grass at the roadside was found to be on fire.
Four crews from Shaftesbury, Warminster and Wincanton and a 4×4 appliance from Westbury raced to the scene to stop the flames spreading.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said “Two hose reel jets have been used, and just the one crew from Wincanton remain at the scene dealing with hotspots.”
UPDATE 3.30PM: The road has reopened, but firefighters remain at the incident.
