A body found in Swindon park was that of a young woman, police have confirmed in an update.
Emergency services were called to the scene in GWR Park, off Faringdon Road, at around 11am this morning (Sunday).
A woman, aged in her 20s, was pronounced dead by paramedics and her family has been informed of the tragic news.
Forensic work has been carried out at the scene this afternoon, with the park cordoned off to the public – but it has since reopened.
Wiltshire Police has confirmed that the death is being treated as non-suspicious at this stage.
In a statement, a force spokesperson said: “We responded to reports that a woman’s body had been discovered in GWR Park, Swindon just after 11am this morning (Sunday).
“Sadly, a woman in her 20s was declared deceased and her next of kin have been informed. Our thoughts are her family at this difficult time.”
They continued: “The park was closed for a number of hours while officers carried out an investigation [into] what happened but has now reopened.
“Although we are in the early stages of this investigation, we do not believe there to be a wider risk to the public.”
