A Hawk jet has reportedly crashed near RAF Valley in Anglesey, North Wales, this afternoon, sparking a major emergency response.
The aircraft is understood to have come down east of the RAF base, near Rhosneigr, shortly after 1pm today (Wednesday).
Witnesses in the area have reported hearing a loud bang before seeing a large plume of black smoke rising from the area where the aircraft is believed to have crashed.
There are reports that two people ejected from the aircraft before it came down.
Several witnesses have reported seeing two parachutes in the air around the time of the incident, but the condition of those involved has not yet been confirmed.
A significant emergency services presence has been reported at the scene.
Two Wales Air Ambulances and an HM Coastguard helicopter are understood to have been deployed to the incident, alongside fire and rescue crews and other emergency services.
The aircraft is understood to be a Hawk jet associated with RAF Valley, although the exact circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been officially confirmed.
RAF Valley, on the west coast of Anglesey, operates Hawk T2 aircraft which are used for fast-jet training.
Images and accounts emerging from the area suggest smoke could be seen from some distance following the incident.
Members of the public in nearby communities have also reported hearing the incident and seeing emergency aircraft responding to the area.
At this early stage, there has been no official confirmation regarding the identities or conditions of those believed to have been on board.
It is also not yet clear what caused the aircraft to come down.
The Ministry of Defence is understood to be aware of the incident, while further information is expected from the relevant authorities in due course.
