Bath’s famous Royal Avenue has been cordoned off following a double stabbing.

Two men were knifed during an attack close to the city’s Royal Crescent, one of the South West’s most popular tourist attractions.

Emergency services, including Wiltshire Air Ambulance, rushed to the scene shortly after 9pm last night (Sunday, 14 January).

An 18-year-old man sustained stab wounds to his chest and legs and was Southmead Hospital in Bristol, the closest regional major trauma centre, for urgent care.

He remains hospitalised today (Monday) and police believe his injuries could be life-changing. However, he is stable not in a life-threatening condition.

A 20-year-old man sustained knife wounds to his face and arm, and was treated at Royal United Hospital in Bath – and has since been discharged.

The National Police Air Service helicopter was tasked and circled the city for around 30 minutes.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody for questioning.

Royal Avenue and Queen’s Parade remain cordoned off as forensic work is carried out at the scene.

Within the cordon, there was a pair of bloodied white Nike trainers and clothing – which were examined and photographed as part of the investigation.

Searches are expected to be carried out as police hunt the weapon used in the serious assault, with the area likely to remain cordoned off throughout the day.

Detective Inspector Hannah Marsh said: “We’ve already identified a number of people we’re interested in speaking to about this incident but we’re also keen on hearing from anyone who witnessed it or who has information which could help us.

“Incidents such as this remain uncommon in Bath but we appreciate what happened will cause people alarm and the sight of the large cordon will prompt questions from local residents.

“There will be a highly visible police presence in the area while we carry out enquiries and neighbourhood officers will continue to patrol the area once these have been completed to provide reassurance to the community. Should you have any questions or concerns please approach an officer.”
