Nine people have been hospitalised after a serious crash in Wiltshire.
Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on A342 Monument Hill, south of Devizes, at around 11.45am this morning (Thursday).
The incident involved an Urchfont Community Bus and a Heritage Fine Food Company van – which impacted head-on – in the Stert area.
Air ambulance medics attended the scene alongside several fire crews, with at least two casualties reportedly trapped inside one of the vehicles.
South Western Ambulance Service sent a significant number of resources – including numerous ambulances and several Hazardous Area Response Teams.
Eleven people – aged between 50 and 99 – were caught up in the smash. Nine of those were taken to hospital for treatment.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that the casualties sustained “varying levels of injury”, but none are – at this time – in a life-threatening condition.
The road I will remained closed for around ten hours for complex collision investigation work and vehicle recovery.

In a short statement, a Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Please be advised that the A342 Monument Hill at Stert is currently closed in both directions due to a serious collision.
“Please find alternate routes.”
