A man is fighting for his life after being crushed by a car on a driveway near Swindon.
A significant number of emergency service personnel were scrambled to High Street, Purton, at around 10.30am this morning (Thursday).
The casualty had been working under a jacked-up blue Citroen C4 Picasso on a driveway when it is thought to have become unstable and collapsed on top of him.
He sustained serious injuries and specialist 999 crews, including the ambulance service’s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) from Bristol, were sent to the scene.
Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance (WBAA) sent four critical care medics to the incident – two in a helicopter and two in a rapid response vehicle.
The man, after being freed from beneath the vehicle and being given urgent treatment, was taken into an ambulance and conveyed to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that his injuries were life-threatening; he remains in hospital at this time. The force said that the incident was not a criminal matter.
The High Street was closed in both directions for around two hours.
At the height of the incident, an ambulance, two ambulance cars, two HART Incident Response Units, the WBAA critical care car, two fire engines from Westlea and Royal Wootton Bassett, and several police vehicles were parked in the road.
