A man has died after being struck by a lorry on the M4 near Swindon.
Emergency services responded to reports of a serious road traffic collision on the eastbound carriageway at Membury Services at around 8.54am today (Thursday).
As first reported by Wiltshire 999s, 999 crews found a pedestrian with significant injuries and immediately pronounced him dead at the scene.
Thames Valley Police has since provided further details – confirming that the deceased was a man aged in his 50s.
The casualty had been struck by a HGV in the carriageway. A full forensic collision investigation is underway to establish the circumstances.
Detective Sergeant Dominique Roe said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who has sadly died.
“We are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances of this collision and are appealing to anybody who witnessed it, or saw the events leading up to it, to please get in touch.
“If you were driving in the area and have dash-cam footage, or have any information that may assist our investigation, please contact Thames Valley Police.
“Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could be important.”
Road closures remain in place on the M4 eastbound between junctions 15 and 14.
There are significant delays and increasing congestion in the area, and motorists are advised to avoid the route if possible and consider alternative journeys while emergency services remain at the scene.
