A school was plunged into lockdown following an incident on Wednesday (28 January).
Police responded to “concerns raised by staff” at the Royal Wootton Bassett Academy in Lime Kiln at approximately 9am.
Lockdown procedure was reportedly activated after a pupil received a message from somebody threatening to stab them.
In a confusing message to parents, the school said it was in a “lockdown situation” – but also stated it was a “practice”.
It read: “PLEASE NOTE THE LOCKDOWN TODAY IS A PRACTICE (28.1.26) BUT THIS IS THE EMAIL YOU WOULD RECEIVE IF THIS WERE A LIVE EVENT.
“This email is to inform you that Royal Wootton Bassett is in a lockdown situation.
“Please await further updates. Many thanks for your patience and understanding as we manage the situation. Mrs A Ellis Headteacher”
Wiltshire Police confirmed that the incident was real, with officers attending the establishment and making an arrest.
A spokesperson said: “We responded to concerns raised by staff at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy.
“A teenage boy, who was not a pupil at the school was arrested as a precaution and has since been released, with no further action.”
The force did not release further information about the circumstances of the incident.
