A Wiltshire farmer was briefly mistaken for a criminal amid a rural crime crackdown.
Officers responded to a report from a member of the public about a 4×4 being driven at speed across farmland near Calne earlier this week.
Police located the vehicle in question – a red pick-up truck – in the Yatesbury area, and were able to quickly establish that it belonged to a local farmer.
The force said that PCSO Jasmine Thomson has been carrying out high-visibility patrols across rural areas of Calne, Chippenham and Corsham.
The patrols form part of the National Rural Crime Week of Action.
Wiltshire Police thanked residents for reporting concerns, saying such reports allow officers to investigate suspicious activity and provide reassurance.
The force said its presence in rural areas also helps protect the countryside, support farming communities and address residents’ concerns.
Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity in a rural area can report it to Wiltshire Police on 101, or call 999 in an emergency.
