A teenage boy has been arrested after a girl was critically hurt in a crash in the Cotswolds.
Emergency services were called to a single-vehicle road traffic collision near the village of Elkstone, north of Cirencester, at around 2.20am on Monday (17 February).
A white Volkswagen Polo had left an unclassified road and collided with a tree.
Police officers were first on scene, providing first aid ahead of the ambulance service.
A 16-year-old girl sustained significant injuries, and was taken to Southmead Hospital’s Major Trauma Centre – where she remains in a life-threatening condition.
A 14-year-old girl sustained hand and leg injuries, and a 17-year-old boy sustained leg injuries. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.
A 17-year-old boy, from Stroud, was arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol, driving while unfit and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was later released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Road closures were put in place while a collision investigation took place – but these have since been removed.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to make contact with Gloucestershire Constabulary. Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage of the vehicle or saw it being driven prior to the collision.
