A Swindon shop is closed after another robbery – this time at knifepoint.
Police have cordoned off Morrisons Daily in Penhill Drive, Penhill, following the serious incident shortly after opening this morning (Tuesday).
According to a source, a man entered the store with a knife and threatened workers.
At the time of the incident, the shop was manned by two female staff members. It’s understood they were left shaken but uninjured.
On 24 July, the same store was robbed by two men wearing balaclavas at 6.50am. It’s unclear at this early stage if the incidents are linked.
Morrisons is likely to remain closed for most of today as forensic work is carried out at the scene.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are investigating following a robbery at the Morrison’s store in Penhill Drive, Swindon, earlier this morning (26/08).
“At around 6.25am, a man entered the store with a knife and threatened an employee, stealing a quantity of alcohol.
“The suspect has then left the scene. The employee was fortunately uninjured.
“A cordon has been set up at the store while urgent enquiries are carried out.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101 quoting reference log 58 of today’s date.”
