A shop in Swindon has been closed after a robbery this morning (Thursday).
Police have cordoned off Morrisons Daily in Penhill Drive, Penhill, as a crime scene.
According to locals, two men robbed the store earlier today – with staff left shaken.
One person added that their mum was working at the time, claiming the suspects “went in with balaclavas and jumped the till”.
Another claimed that the workers are “in shock” but safe.
Officers are now guarding the entrance, with several units in attendance. It’s understood door-to-door enquiries are being carried out in the area, as police work to catch the perpetrators.
UPDATE 11.40AM: A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a robbery at a store in Penhill this morning (24/07).
“At around 6.50am, two unknown suspects wearing black clothing and balaclavas have forced entry into the Morrison’s Daily in Penhill Drive.
“They have then stolen a significant amount of cigarettes from behind the counter before fleeing in a van.
“There were no reported injuries to staff who were setting up inside the shop.
“The store is currently closed while further enquiries are carried out. It is likely to reopen sometime this afternoon.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is asked to contact us on 101 quoting reference 54250100345.”
