A Swindon burglary victim who was macheted walked half a mile to a pharmacy to seek medical treatment, it has been revealed.

Police were called to the Ashington House Surgery in Westlea at around 2pm on Wednesday after reports of a male casualty presenting himself with a stab wound to his leg.

Having found out that he had been the victim of an aggravated burglary at his home in Affleck Close, Toohill, officers raced to the crime scene.

An area near the property was cordoned off as police dog Bree and her handler tracked from the area. However, Bree traced only the pharmacy where the victim sought help – approximately half a mile away.

The casualty was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.

As of Friday 7 May, no arrests had been made.

On the day of the serious incident, Wiltshire Police released this statement:

“We were called shortly after 2pm today (05/05) by the ambulance service following what is believed to be an aggravated burglary at an address at Affleck Close, Swindon.

“A man in his 40s has been taken to Great Western Hospital with what is believed to be a stab wound but it is not believed his injuries are life threatening.

“A scene is in place at the address while our enquiries continue. No arrests have been made at this stage.”
