An emaciated dog suffering from several open wounds has been found in a Wiltshire village.
The male lurcher was discovered in the Netheravon area on 1 October and has since been taken into the care of Wiltshire Council’s Dog Warden team.
The council’s Public Protection Service confirmed the dog was found in an emaciated condition and had several open wounds.
The animal was not microchipped, meaning council officers have so far been unable to identify its owner through a chip.
The Dog Warden team is now working to establish who owns the lurcher and is seeking information which could help with its enquiries.
The council has released details about the dog and the area where it was found in the hope that somebody may recognise the animal or know where it has come from.
Anyone with information about the lurcher, its ownership or the circumstances surrounding it being found in Netheravon is asked to contact the council.
Information can be provided by emailing [email protected] and quoting reference number 619547.
The council has stressed that the dog is currently safe with its Dog Warden team.
Officials are not seeking rescue space or offers to rehome the animal at this stage.
Wiltshire Council said it is unable to respond to enquiries offering rescue placements or rehoming.
