Firearms officers in three armed response vehicles attempted to stop a white Range Rover in Malmesbury Road shortly before midday today (Wednesday).

The driver – who was wanted for alleged offences – failed to stop and a short pursuit ensued.

The driver is understood to have turned into Hardenhuish Lane on the wrong side of the road – hitting an oncoming vehicle head-on, driven by a member of the public.

He was swiftly detained and arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, drink driving, failing to stop for police and domestic-related offences.

Thankfully, the innocent member of the public involved didn’t sustained any serious injuries. However, he was treated by paramedics at the roadside.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “A man has been arrested following a collision in Hardenhuish Lane, Chippenham, this morning (27/05).

“Shortly before midday, a collision took place between a Range Rover and a Volkswagen estate in Hardenhuish Lane, after the Range Rover had failed to stop for officers a few minutes previously.

“The driver of the Range Rover, a 38-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, drink driving, failing to stop for police and domestic-related offences.

“He has been taken into custody for questioning.

“There were no reported serious injuries. The road was closed to allow for recovery of the vehicles to take place and has now reopened.”
