A suspect has been arrested after immigration officers visited a Calne business.
Wiltshire Police, supported by the Home Office, sent teams to numerous properties in the Chippenham area on Tuesday (24 March).
Police officers, with Immigration Enforcement officers, carried out a series of immigration and welfare checks at local business premises.
“Teams visited businesses to ensure employees were working legally, were safe, and were being treated appropriately”, a force spokesperson said.
“These checks also aimed to identify any potential offences linked to immigration, modern slavery, or human trafficking.”
Wiltshire Police confirmed that a male was taken into custody for overstaying a visa. Authorities have no confirmed at which location he was found.
Sgt Jamie Ball added: “Officers have attended businesses to conduct immigration checks on workers, as well as checks on general working conditions and the welfare of those at the premises.
““It is important that our officers continue to regularly check that employees are working legally and being treated appropriately.
“It’s also crucial that business owners check the immigration status of any employees they are hiring.
“We will continue to clamp down on those breaching laws around immigration and employee rights.”
