Train passengers have been left stranded after flooding blocked two major routes in Wiltshire – with no road transport available.
Railway lines between Chippenham and Bath Spa and Swindon and Bristol Parkway are closed due to water on the track making it unsafe to operate.
The news comes as Storm Claudia continues to batter parts of Britain with heavy rain.
Great Western Railway confirmed it was “unable to source any meaningful replacement road transport” – meaning many will be left stranded on stations.
In a statement, a spokespersons said: “We have had reports of flooding between Swindon and Bristol Parkway.
“When flood water rises above a certain level trains are unable to run through the affected area.
“Network Rail are monitoring the water levels. Until the water recedes and the line is inspected we are unable to run our services between between Swindon and Bristol Parkway.
“We are unable to divert trains via an alternative route as this is also affected by flooding.”
They continued: “We advise that you do not attempt to travel on the route between London Paddington and Swansea via Swindon, Bristol Parkway and Cardiff Central.
“We are unable to source any meaningful replacement road transport and cannot guarantee to be able to get you to your destination today.
“If you are able to make alternative travel arrangements we strong suggest you do so. Tickets dated for travel today, will be accepted tomorrow, Saturday 15 November.”
